I had that exact same problem last summer.  The plug on the power supply had a broken 
wire or something, and the unit was trying to run off the battery, which of course had 
no charge.  I stripped and resoldered the wires and taped the plug with electrical 
tape.  Not pretty, but it works.  Otherwise get on Ebay and buy a new or used power 
supply for cheap.
