I just swapped drives between a 5300 and G3 (more or less a 3400, 
considerably more than less).  It's basically a matter of 
disconnecting the power supply, removing the battery, expansion 
drive, keyboard, clutch covers, palm rest and finally the drive 
assembly.  Fortunately the G3 uses the bottom drive mounting holes 
instead of the side.  The 5300 uses the side holes and the 20G drive 
I had in there had a different hole pattern than the carrier.  But 
either style of drive fit the G3's drive frame as the had the same 
bottom pattern.

I'd say go slow and don't force anything.  The memory card may 
interfere slightly with the left clutch cover.  Either pull the 
memory or just be careful working the clutch cover around it.
