If you have a Sad Mac face, this is an indication of a broken Mac.
Sorry, there's the reason it was so cheap.

There should be numbers ad letters under the sad mac face, what are
they? You can tell what it's not liking that way.

(It could be something as simple as loose RAM or something as serious
as a blown logic board.)

A bad or unformatted hard drive should result in a flashing floppy disk
with a question mark on it.

After it *what* for a while?

Duos only have an Appletalk connection. You're really going to need a
Dock for it to be usable. If there' no OS on the hard drive there's no
way to boot it up. With a Dock you can boot from a floppy disk, at
least.
