No.  It is not possible to boot the Lombard with an OS that does not 
support HFS+, especially since the Lombard is "New World."  OS 8.1 is 
the minimum New World OS, but Lombards can't boot OS 8.1 anyway.

However, it IS possible that this is a 3rd party hard disk that the 
installer/Drive Setup may not like.  Try running Drive Setup and 
re-installing (updating) the disk driver.

Personally, I think TechTool is trash.  It's a "nifty" utility, but 
it doesn't really do anything that other utilities don't do better.
