It is hard to say how long they would last as a primary battery is not intended to receive a charge. The powerbooks charge their PRAM batteries with a trickle charge. Who know how long the non-rechargable can take that. The reason that powerbook PRAM batteries are rechargable is this: They get a very heavy load put on them when you put the computer to Sleep and swap out the main battery (AC not connected). This is a feature of the Mac Powerbook, swapping the main battery in Sleep mode instead of having to Shut Down, swap, then Restart. But this uses a lot of the PRAM batteries power because it is not only keeping PRAM settings alive but also RAM when it is Sleeping with no main battery or AC power. Apple says to expect a good PRAM battery to keep RAM alive (in Sleep mode) for about 4 minutes. In otherwords, your PRAM battery is depleted in 4 minutes if it is powering RAM during Sleep. But, it gets recharged (takes many hours) as soon as you get the new main battery slide in or as soon as you apply the AC power adapter.
