I use a program called GPSy (www.gpsy.com) with my duo 280c and also
used to use it with my duo 250 (grayscale) and it worked very well. I
also use StreetAtlas 4.0 with the 280c (68LC040). It was a bit sluggish
with the 250 (68030).

If you go to 
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&group=sci.geo.satellite-nav
you will find that most people there are PC people and some will insist
you need a minimum of a 400MHz pentium. Well, that may be true if you
are using a PC ;-) I don't know. But a 68LC040 is plenty fast enough to
do the job well with the two programs mentioned above.
