Sure does sound like a bum ethernet/modem card to me too, other tests would be a LB swap and/or trying another card. This is surely what you get for assembling another Franken'Book! : >) I just gave up on my own Franken-3400 and bought a couple of "parts" PBs 3400, both of which turned out to be fully-functional (lucky me!) Upshot is I now have an extra enet/modem card, reply offlist of course. Alternatively, surely you've got a PCcard enet NIC about, just use that. I always ignored al lthe cardbus/3400 posts, but now that >I actually have a working 3400 I regret my oversights... I got a Newer Firewire card to insert into the card-cage by trimming a tiny bit off the corner of the card itself. Examine both CardBus and non-CB cards and you'll quickly see the difference. With the card's top on top and looking from the interface end, you'll notice on the right side the different ridge widths. I simply pared the CB card's ridge down to the width/thickness of a regular PC card. I figured that would be a lot easier than shaving the same spot inside the cardcage. Inserted into both 180mhz and 200mhz PBs 3400 the card shows up on the desktop under 9.1 as a generic PC card. Adding the Newer driver plus the Apple FW extensions (including the FW PC card driver) and the card pops up as a Newer Firewire card. However, I've not been able to get any FW devices recognized. I didn't spend a huge amount of time at it, so I might be missing something obvious. I reckon the fact the card and driver seem to be playing nice means the card is actually recognized as a CardBus card, though of course I could be wrong.
