How long should a battery be able to keep a sleeping PB going without running out of juice?
Episode one: my 5300 was unused for a couple of days (sorry, can't remember how long), and refused to come back from sleep on the battery. After being plugged in it woke up, but with a frozen cursor; I restarted, and all was well. At that point I reconditioned it according to the procedure Sionnach recommended (recharging completely, taking the battery out for thirty seconds and reinserting to charge some more, then repeating the last a couple of times.) It slept on battery (not plugged in) for another couple of days, followed by Episode two: it refused to wake up on battery, came back on AC power, frozen cursor, restart: but this time the cursor remained frozen, with no response from the trackpad at all, though the keyboard behaved normally. I'd replaced the palm rest not long before so figured the cable hadn't been attached properly (ie All My Own Stupid Fault) -- but apparently not, after another restart everything was fine. That was last night. So this morning, after about 12 hours sleeping (not plugged in), it woke up OK on the battery, but only lasted ten minutes or so before running clear down to nothing. Is this at all normal? It's been my understanding that it's bad for the battery to keep the adapter plugged in all the time, but if it's going to run down so quickly just sitting there what choice is there? BTW this battery was bought "new" (I suppose it was actually new-new quite a few years ago) last August: please don't tell me I've got to shell out for another one quite yet! But what *should* I do?
