It should. I use my CDMA Motorola that way with a PB G3 and PB5300. IIRC I also did it with a PB540. You need a modem script to use it with PPP but being as it's probably limited to 14,400 like my phone you could try any of the 14,400 modem scripts, starting with Hayes.
