>>Is the logic board the same thing as the mother board?<< Yes.
>>The person is an experienced technician but not necessarily a computer repair person.<< It's not a question of experience. It's a question of how and why the connector is loose. Was it a poorly constructed board? One with very thin conductors laid down on the substrate, and poor bonding between the very thin conductors and the substrate? Good soldering can't fix those. You really need someone skilled in micro-miniature repair. The conductors can be epoxied to the substrate, and the connections can be reinforced to withstand the forces encountered in attaching the connector--with a lot of work. Whether it's moot or not, the military always required that a similar connector have solder pads on both sides of the board for strength. These appear to be soldered/connected on only one side of the board. I may be wrong, but that's the way they look. I've two 5300s, both have good power connectors. One has been through the REA program, and everything works. The other one has a good power connector, but the ADB connector next to it has pulled loose from the board--an external mouse doesn't work--actually freezes the cursor. I did micro-miniature repair years ago, but I wouldn't touch this one with your hands. The conductors on the two boards differ in width, and, I suspect, in the bonding. If the bonding is fairly weak, the conductor will release from the substrate **VERY** easily with heat, and it's all downhill from there. The one with the bad ADB connector is going back to Apple, and I hope it gets a new logic board. Loosely, Donn -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
