Cathy:
Just for your info, if you purchase TechTools or Disk
Warrior, you also get a legal copy of OS 8.1 that you can install on
your 5300 like my brother did on his 190c. Overlay 7.5.3 up to 7.6.1
with it. This route is much cheaper than having to purchase an
undesired OS 9 or X to get OS 8 in the same bundle as Apple once
demanded and you kill two birds with one stone by having these
essential mandatory disk doctoring programs that one should have
anyway unless you like flirting with massive depression. Update your
new OS 8.1 with the PD Mac OS 8.1 Update.smi to round out extra
extensions and control panels and Open Transport 1.3.1 (at least) and
you'll be up to 95% of a full true OS 8.1 install. I say 95% because
I don't know all that's contained in a true OS 8.1 CD, but so far my
brother's usage's not missing anything! Anything that runs on 7.5.3
up runs great on 8.1, from old timers like Claris 3 to F-16 Falcon.
Then if you like, use Kaleidoscope if you want a OS 9 or OS X (Aqua
Theme 1.04) "look" on your laptop as the cherry on top!
