You'll probably get your best deal from someplace like
ebay on an OS cd...  8.6 is a good choice.  If your
going to max out the RAM and you have need of features
of OS 9, thats an option too.

You can pick up an OS CD from somebody like Powerbook
Guy or someplace like that if you don't want to fool
with the auctions, but you'll end up paying a little
more.  The CD's are bootable and will have the disk
utilities you need.

One thing to keep in mind is the difference between
getting another Powerbooks "restore CD" -say an 8.6 CD
from a Wallstreet- vs a Full Install CD.  I started
out with my 3400 installing from a Wallstreet restore
CD.  8.6 laid down clean, but I did have to go find
the 3400 Modem/Ethernet Extension off Apples website,
download it and install it, as that is machine
specific and won't install from a restoer CD.  If you
install from a full CD, you'll be fine and not need to
do anything else.
