Well, personally, I'd say it's not worth it.

Given the fragility of the video cable on the 5300, taking apart the
LCD housing isn't really advisable.

Besides, the 5300's speaker bites the big one to begin with. The
replacement won't sound much better than the original.

(I've got this project - read crazy dream - to figure out how to
drive a stereo signal on the 5300 using the internal circuits only.
Maybe someday I'll finally track down the documentation for the ITT
ASCO 2300 sound controller on the 5300's logic board. When that day
comes, I'll be jumping for joy - stereo sound on the 5300 would be
pretty darn cool. Of course, there will be some creative case
hacking involved, but still...)

You're better off spending $25 - $50 and picking up a decent pair of
external Cambridge Soundworks speakers or something. If you want to
go for the whole slim-line thing, try the Monsoon MM700 if you can
find them. If you want to go for the whole Apple-brand thing, try
the AppleDesign Powered Speakers II (the black ones).

Yeah, I'm _alllll_ about accessorizing. ;-)

Peace,
Drew
