Hmm, well, ClassicStumbler IS for the lucent card, if you have a
2400, 3400 or newer PowerBook and have the AirPort software also
installed... ;-)

I have been looking into CS for the 5300/1400, but it doesn't look
like it's going to happen. I tried signing up as an OEM developer
with Orinoco (so i could get driver sources for Mac OS), but they
didn't believe me, it seems. ;-) In any case, I think the best bet
for getting CS to work on the 1400/5300 would be to get AirPort to
work there also.

I've been playing around with ResEdit, HexEdit, and some gestalt
tools to see if I could find a way to get AirPort to work on a 5300.
So far, I haven't had any success, but I've learned a lot. I'm
pretty sure now that AirPort checks the gestalt for PC Card services.
It looks for CardBus support and maybe one or two other gestalts.
Now I just have to find a way to fool AirPort into thinking it
doesn't need those services, or get a 5300 to report that it has
those services. Then we'll see. Also, it seems to use something
Apple calls the "WirelessAPI," but I couldn't find any documentation
for wireless APIs on Apple's developer site. That info seems to be
in-house only...

Are there any Toolbox programmers out there that can write a patch
for the "pccd" gestalt selector?

Some of the other features that are so nifty in NetStumbler (on
linux) include sniffing raw wireless streams and decloaking "hidden"
base stations. From what I can gather, AirPort will not allow either
of these things. Also, there seem to be no WaveLAN drivers for Mac
OS that allow setting the card into the right mode to allow sniffing
(assuming I didn't want to use the AirPort drivers). So it doesn't
look like those features are coming to CS any time soon either.

Still, I have some other feature ideas up my sleeve. CS still has a
lot of growing to do!

Peace,
Drew
