Clark, I'm running FM 3.0 so that may say something. But I didn't see the "--" option in my symbols menu. No worry, when I enter "--c*" as the search criteria in a field it returns all records that contain a word in the selected field that begins with "c". That "c" word may appear anywhere in the text string of the field. I sent my solution to the original respondent, but it did't make it to the PB list. I got this Failed to deliver to '<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>' LIST module(list powerbooks) reports: Your message cannot be posted. It has the content-type: multipart/alternative, and this list accepts plain text only Don't know what that is. Anyway, my FM solution was to create a calulation field that finds left(text,1) This will give you the first letter of the first word in that field in every recored. Then search on that calculation field.
