There is no System 8. ;-)
But the PowerBook 1400 supports the following System/Mac OS versions:
7.5.3
7.6
7.6.1
8
8.1
8.5
8.5.1
8.6
9
9.0.1
9.0.4
9.1
The odd one out is 7.5.5, which, as has been mentioned before, is not
supported on the 1400.
Work is underway to get 9.2.2 working on it, but that is rather sketchy so
far. And it won't be officially supported, unlike aforementioned system
software versions.
