Actually, you can reset the PRAM with the Powerbook
running on power from the AC Adapter. But to reset
the Power Manager, you'll want to unplug it. I always
go after the Power Manager first - although zapping
the PRAM 'Should' do that as well.

I would unplug the 3400 from AC, then remove the
battery pack. Press and hold in the reset button on
the back next to the Ethernet/Modem port for at least
a minute. (I usually hold mine in for about 2 minutes)
Then, plug the AC back in (leave your battery out)
and boot it up using the key sequence Victoria
mentioned above for zapping the PRAM. (It may boot up
on it;s own without you pressing the power button once
you reconnect the AC after holding down the reset...
thats ok. Just get ready with your fingers on the
COMMAND OPTION P R keys... I usually hold through at
least half a dozen chimes, but two should be
sufficient. After that, let it boot up as it normally
would, and, once it's runnign again, put your battery
back in.

If you find yourself having to do this frequently,
problems with the machine powering on after sitting
for a couple days or anything like that, I would
suspect the CMOS battery and go and change it. You
can get them cheaply and it's only slightly more
complicated than putting RAM in it. A bad CMOS
battery could corrode onto the circuit board in worse
case - so it's cheap insurace for eliminating freak
problems and ensuring your machine operates
smoothly...

Cheers,
Sionnach
