It had nothing to do with OS 8.6. It is a ROM issue with the powerbooks 
involved. Newer Powerbooks, (Wallstreets, original G3's and possibly 
3400's) work fine with SCSI mode > 4gb.  The others don't.

All other powerbooks that support it, don't. And it does work, sort of, 
with some drives. It worked with my 5300 and the 6gb drive I put in 
there, but I sure didn't write anywhere near the 4GB limit.
