Hi there, Hoping someone has run across this before. My 1400's been upgraded with the Vimage 233/G3. It came with an additional 24 megs of RAM for a total of 40. I picked up another 24 megs to max it out and am getting this error when both chips are piggy-backed: "the built-in memory test has detected a problem. Please contact a service technician for assistance." Yet it boots up.
Here's what I've done so far: With either chip installed by itself, it boots up fine and About This computer tells me I have 40 MB With the older chip on the bottom and new chip piggy-backed on top, I get the error and About tells me I have 32 MB With the newer chip on the bottom and older chip on top, I get the error and About tells me I have 24 MB Hmmmm The older chip says Microtek on it. The newer chip has no brand name on it. The markings on the memory chips say SEC/Korea/643Y/KM48C2100ALT-6 If that helps any... Anybody run into this before? Could it be a chip incompatibility? Something whack with the G3 and the chips? Thanks in advance. Tim -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
