Just got my Powebook 1400cs out of storage to find one of my batteries has gone strange. I have the original battery that came with it that holds a small charge, and I also have a VST battery that I purchased about a year ago. The original battery works fine, I put it in, can charge it, blah blah blah.

I put the VST battery in and the X over the battery (that signifies there is no battery) stays there. Anybody have some helpful hints? If there isn't a quick solution maybe a nice long one. Anybody know what I might be able to measure on the battery with my multimeter? A quick way to make sure the battery is making all 5 contact points? Or do I need to open the battery and check for bad solder points. If anybody has had a similar experience please let me know. I tried to search the PowerBooks list archive, but didn't find what I was looking for.
