With regards to audio work: my 3400 has only 80 MB Ram, so you are limited to about 5 min, for a 20 MB Ram file (then you must save to the HDD, etc.), so, taking into account OS requirements, maybe about 15 min. to play with.
I use ProTools and have recorded two straight hours of stereo sound on my 3400c/80mb with no problem. ProTools records direct to the HD. ProTools Free is available at digidesign.com
