I'm considering a 5400rpm 40gig drive for my 5300ce.
Thing is, I'm not sure whether I'll notice that much of a performance increase over a cheaper 4200 rpm drive when considering the 5300ce's bus speed of 33.3 mhz.
It'll work, but as you surmise, you won't notice much of a difference.
