You sound like a perfect case for an upgrade. Anybody with that much old-school hardware would be perfect for that new chip. At 500 MHz, you should have a great machine there. Mike Breeden at xlr8yourmac.com (iirc) can't say enough good things about the Wallstreet as far as look and feel. Sounds like a good machine to have. That said, if you hadn't already spent that kind of money on the Wallstreet, I would say to look at a new iBook instead. You'd have firewire & USB along with a 800 MHz G3 for less, not to mention Quartz Extreme. My iBook 500, sans QE, does okay in X. I imagine the 800 MHz would do quite a bit better. Also more likely to have support in future OS X versions, I suppose. The screen is top rate, nice keyboard, very nice size, and great battery life (I really have gotten 4.5+ hours several times, depending on what I'm doing). Only question I have is why you want to shell out for the G4? Anything in particular with AltiVec that you've gotta have? At $100, that's a decent savings, but it sounds like your budget will handle the G4. If so, why the heck not, right? You'd certainly have the uberWallstreet!
