I have an old 5300c powerbook that is in good working condition, except for
the battery. I've been trying to get it to talk to my imac over the infared
port, but neither computer will see eachother, no matter how close they are
to eachother. I also bought a Dlink ethernet pc card that says it supports
mac operating systems. The only problem I'm having with that is installing
the drivers. My cdrom quit working. It's an old apple 4x caddy loader that
plugs into the scsi port in the back. The powerbook doesn't recognize it
anymore, but it was working fine a few months ago when I last used it. I
have all the cdrom extenstions enabled, I can't figure out what could be
wrong. Also, what browser will run the internet well in 7.5? One other
thing. I made a backup of the operating system using the backup program I
found on the powerbook. It used like 15 floppy disks. Has anyone had any
luck doing a clean install of their operating system with a set of these?
Is there any other way for me to reinstall the operating system? When I
tried to install os 8.5 off the cd it said I didn't have enough ram. Any
tips on using these productively would be greatly appreciated. I'm very
familiar with the 8.5 and 9.1 mac os's, but 7.5 is still a little weird for
me. Thanks

Jon
