Apple Express Modems

Does anybody here know how to configure an express modem in a duo to 
log onto an ISP?  Is MacPPP and MacTCP for older systems useable?  I 
haven't much experience at setting up internet on an old machine such 
as the duos.  Google wasn't much help, so I was hoping someone could 
help here.  I use MyFreei for dial up and all I want to do on the duo 
is check email on vacation.
