Hi everyone! Here's a very rough explanation: I tried resetting the PowerManager, etc. before doing the following: I installed a small170 Meg Compaq brand internal IDE HDD. I initialized with the Disk Tools (7.6) floppy and installed the driver. Booting from the external SCSI, I changed start-up disks to the Apple 8.0 CD Installer from the internal CD-Rom. I installed 8.0 using a custom install and not allowing HDD driver update. Then I installed 8.1 update using a Mac Addict CD. An old version of Netscape Navigator 4.04 was crashing, so I am writing to you using iCab 2.9 Classic (it works also with OS 7.x!). I took the PowerBook to work in sleep mode - I am also going to try to turn the PowerBook off - shut down. If it fails to restart (I had trouble at home - two or three reboots to boot from the internal HDD), I have the Disk Tools floppy with Start-up CP. The next phase is important - what testing will prove that the PowerBook is healthy again? Thanks to all - I will be in touch with certain people as soon as testing is complete. George
