All PBs 3400 are cardbus capable, however without modifying the cage or
card they cannot physically accept a cardbus card.

Visit my page for a report on some of what I was able to do with a
_stock_ 3400:
<http://mywebpages.comcast.net/macdan/3400cardbus.html>

I also recently picked up a VST brand FW card which works fine with just
the Apple FW extensions. Just as with the Newer FW card, I had to slice
the corner to allow it to fit (see above url for details), but with a bit
of careful cutting it seats fine.

I also chopped the corner off a DVD zoomed-video card with the rather
optimistic idea I could play DVDs. The DVD card seems to load its driver
as it appears on the desktop with the correct name once the driver's
enabled. I have a Matshita DVD burner in an external FW box, and while a
DVD mounts and launches DVD player I haven't yet been able to get past
the various HW and SW 'failure' warnings.

As for T1,2,3 PCMCIA cards, any card fitting any of those specs shold
work in a 3400 provided they have a driver. Storage devices and hardware
modems seem to be generally supported by MacOS itself, but most other
stuff requires a vendor-specific driver.

Oh sheesh, now yer asking for more than I can dish up in these few
minutes I have.

Yes, yes, _I_have_no_idea_, and yes.

I've not tried a USB card in a 3400 but lots of others have reported
various degrees of success. Seems to me the best reported results came to
those who bought a Mac-supported card.

Oh sheesh, now yer asking for more than I can dish up in these few
minutes I have.
