 I did an Apple recall exchange with my old 3400 power adapter and 
then sent me
 the new yo-yo adapter and it works just fine. Been using it for a year.

Er, the 3400's adapter wasn't recalled.  The recalled adapter is the 
M4402 which shipped with the G3 from May 1998 to March 2000.
