Well, Dan Knight for one. He recently (as in within the last few months) posted a message saying as such.
If you don't think it's important, then you aren't a very good news person. I'm not going to waste my time explaining why you should be precise in your description of units.
Yes, I do have a life. I have a B.S. in physics (currently pursuing a master's in an engineering discipline) and I'm a real-life engineer. Units are important - you wouldn't believe the problems it causes when people don't use the right ones.
