I'd like to use my PB 1400 to control a shortwave radio receiver--namely a JRC NRD-525. The radio connects to a PC with an RS-232c connector.

I have tried using my SCSI/Dock adapter with the RS-232c, but the receiver doesn't show up as a SCSI device in the Apple System Profiler. Also, when using Zterm to try to "talk" to the radio, it only looks for serial port devices.

Yikes. That's because the two protocols, despite having the same connector, are *COMPLETELY DIFFERENT* interfaces.

Now, assuming that you didn't kill either your Powerbook or your receiver by plugging the wrong things in, you need an adapter to connect it to the printer/modem port. A modem cable should work fine...
