Greetings,

I've recently acquired a nice Powerbook 1400, been upgraded with a Sonnet
466 card, 64 MB ram, OS 9.1, pcmcia/ethernet modem. It runs like a champ,
and it serves my modest needs for a traveling portable.

EXCEPT....the on/off key doesn't work on the keyboard. It won't start up or
shut down using that method. I obtained a keyboard from an old Powerbook
where I work; same result. I used the ADB keyboard from my Mac Color Classic
(it still works great too), and while it doesn't start up using the power
key it will recognize the shut down command through the power key.

I have to start it using the power management button on the back panel. I
wonder if that's good for it or not - though it isn't too much of a problem,
except i'd like it to work. Suspiciously, some of the keyboard startup
combinations, like zapping the PRAM (which i did), work very reluctantly. I
haven't tried the Apple-C yet and I wonder if it will work.

Worth noting: the battery holds a charge for about two minutes. It's pretty
exhausted.

One I've come across is replacing the PRAM battery (my tech shop will do
that for me, luckily, because I'm bad with a soldering iron). It seems to
keep the time and date, however (it was recently unplugged and didn't jump
back to say, 1904)....but I'd appreciate any insights anyone on the list can
give me.

Regards,
Chase Clements
