I have a problem with Entourage from the Office 2001 package. Specifically
it freezes the whole system on my PB1400. After I download my mail and try
to open "html" messages, specifically messages like my eBay notices or ads
from Aladdin the application locks up everything, no mouse movement nothing.
I am forced to do a restart by pressing the button in the rear. It might
open one message but it will freeze on the second one. All plain text and
rich text messages open fine. Before the freeze occurs I can hear the hard
drive working hard. The same as it does for outlook express with the same
message. Outlook Express opens all the messages with no problems. Similar
delays and drive use with the same "html" messages.

System is as follows: PB1400cs, 56 megs of ram, System 9.1, NuPower
G3/233mhz. I ran a Conflict test with negative results, everything worked
during the test but 15 minutes later, Bam! freeze! I ran Gauge Pro to check
the ram and it passed. I ran TechTool Pro and Apple's Disk First Aid,
neither found anything wrong.

Office 2001 was a clean install followed by the M$ combined upgrade from
this month. I tried increasing the memory from 8mb to over 15mb with the
same results. Otherwise this machine has been rock solid except for problem
#2.

Second problem is with swf files. When accessing one of these files on the
web the load stalls either at the start of the file or about 1 second into
the audio play. If I let it sit nothing more happens. I have to force quit
either Internet Explorer or Netscape whichever I happen to be using.

I'm running IE version 5.1.6 and Netscape Com. 4.7.9. Shockwave plugin is
version 6.0r79, the latest available. This has been a problem for a while
through the last upgrades. I tried a complete clean install using
Macromedia's uninstall utility before a reinstall. Anybody know if older
versions may work better? I tried the usual fixes and memory allotment
increases with the same lack of success. I figure I might need an older
version of the plugin.

Anybody have a clue what's going on?

TIA
John
