Hello DPrice: My first suggestion is to take the 'Book into a dark area when the screen fades out and see if the fluorescent backlight is still on. As the other respondent suggested, it could be a failing backlight, if the screen is going dark and no light is seen emanating from the screen when it is in a dark area. If instead, the screen is still lit, that would suggest that the problem has to do with the contrast of the screen.
