It needs to be serviced by Apple.

My 500MHz iBook 12 developed a stiff hinge. I lived with it until the CD ROM stopped
working. I sent it in under the warranty and it came back working. Some time later it
started getting stiff again. I read up on the Apple forums about how the hinges were
initally too tight, then the fix was too tight. I sent it in under my extended
warranty, and it's been fine ever since.
