One day I will finish my manuscript. Thinking about picking up an old PB1400
as a travelling typewriter. I was thinking that I could purchase a pokey 1400
model so long as I can boot up and run silent from my 8MB PCMCIA memory card
for long periods of time. Is anyone out there doing this already? Any
comments on this setup would be appreciated.
Yes, I did read Dan Knight's great article on this at http://www.lowendmac.com/macdan/02/1114dk.html but I was hoping to get a few more stories from the field.
Thanks in advance, Roger in Vancouver
Well, I don''t know about the 8MB, but I am running a G3 accelerated using OS 9 and my system folder and VM are loaded on a 256MB CF card. I've only been running this for a couple of weeks but so far it is fast, stable and quiet. I also have my main software on a second CF card so I only access the HD at startup or to save at the end of a day. My main goal was extended battery life and on an old battery that was giving about 10 minutes when using the HD, I'm now getting about 30 minutes from the same battery. I have two new batteries that I'm charging right now and I'm anxious to see so long they last with this arrangement.

P.S. I did remove the CD drive before starting up. This does seem to make a difference as I would get an immediate low power warning after startup with it in but not after it was removed.
