Does the control panel (if any) give an error code, or does the flashing light sequence give an error code equiv. in the manual? I recently had this happen with my Panasonic 4420 laser printer. The code said the fuser unit was bad and needed repair. A search on the 'net pointed out to a minor problem and a friend of mine who repairs printers for a living was able to repair it in about an hour--cold solder joints that broke and just needed touching up.
If you can find out what the error is, the fix might be minor--or it might be time to start shopping for a new printer.
