I'm visiting friends for the holiday; where I am, there's a neat nighttime-only radio station run by a guy from his house, that plays some neat music that's hard to find.
I could swap a bunch of tapes in and out of a recorder all night, and then digitize them on my ATI card on my esktop once I get home, but it would be neat to record them to my 1400 somehow. Hi, I record my congregation's Sun. Services on my 1400 all the time. I've tried different programs, but only had success with one - Amadeus (I think it's currently $30 and the guy will give you free updates until the end of time), downloadable atwww. hairersoft. com. There are versions for 8.6 and 9.x (and OSX for that matter). It deals with files directly from the disk, so you are not limited to recording until you run out of RAM, or only editing sounds that can fit in RAM - which would be a real deal-killer on the 1400. BTW, the 1400's soundinput does take line level - I go from a condensor mic through a preamp into the 1400 and the sound quality is very useable. A line-out jack into the 1400 should work, just keep the volume low at firstand bring it up until the level meters are showing some action. Another FYI - keep whatever you're recording from and the PBook plugged into the same outlet if possible, or you might get a little noise in the form of a groundloop hum. Yet another FYI - some audio programs have an issue with Virtual Memory, Amadeus gives me no problems with my VM mapped to a Compact Flash card in the PC Card slot. I would try it out before plopping down an bucks on it for this among other reasons. It's been a pain for me, but once it works you have that capability at your disposal for life of your 'Book. Best Regards, David Thrower __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
