Assuming it is a SCSI drive, I have even used one with an old Apple ][gs. 
Didn't need a driver for that one. For Sys 7.6.1, you may have to hunt up 
one of the older drivers, but it should work fine. I have used one on a 
PB165 and a 170 with no problems. You will, of course, need the right 
cable or HDI SCSI adapter in order to mate it to the powerbook.
