I want to put Virtual PC on my PB 1400, but the installer says that itneeds 64 megs of RAM. I have a flash card I am using for virtual memory. Is there a way to install Virtual PC anyways? If I hook the PB up as a SCSI disk to my desktop that has more than enough RAM, and install to the PB, will that work?
Couple of things - which version are you trying to use? And how much physical RAM do you have on the 1400? VPC is a very resource hungry application. It really needs a minimum of 64mb of real ram and it really needs a G3 or newer. If you don't have these, you can probably still get version 2 or so to run on the machine, but it will be painful at best. Swap/VM does not suffice for this program.
You don't mention what you need VPC for, but I'd suggest that if you have any other way of achieving your goal, use that instead. A 1400 will never really be a good machine for VPC, I fear, with only a 603e and 64mb max. I have a client who runs a bookstore and needs VPC to run a windows only db. To get acceptable performance we upgraded his iMacs to 500mhz and 512mb with the VPC app given 256. Now it performs adequately.
