Kanga questions
"The weird thing is that even the data port (the Kanga has a weird
ethernet/modem port) is not recognized. Unfortunately I don't have
the split dongle so I cannot actually test the modem, while the
ethernet works just fine."

Remember, not all Kangas came with the combined ethernet/ modem card.
Mine just has the modem card and so I use a 56k pcmcia modem card
which would improve the speed from the original 33.6 anyway.

I believe that all Kangas sold in the U.S. had ethernet/modem combo cards, but have no knowledge about units sold in Australia. It has already been pointed out that both ethernet and telephone cables can be plugged individually into the combo port without the "split dongle," which is needed only for simultaneous connections.

You can even use a regular RJ-45 splitter to connect both simultaneously. Whether you use the RJ-45 splitter or a direct cable connection for phone make sure it's a single phone line The second phone line uses the same pins as one of the Ethernet pairs and you could likely damage the Ethernet port. If you are plugging it into a two line phone connection you need to either use the Apple splitter or a phone cord with only two wires.
