Which is why I said what I said. When using 68K software, the 190 is faster
than the 5300. You can't be any LESS misleading than that.

A properly cached PM8100 is faster than any 68K machine. Can't speak for the
others as I have never owned them, but my 8100/80 didn't choke on 68K
software even before it got a G3 upgrade.

I thought it was, and there are many places that make a reference to such a
product, but you're actually right. Apple did sell a 603e upgrade kit for
the 190, but it was more or less a 5300 motherboard with the other parts
needed for the switch. You can actually buy the kit from the PowerBook Guy
for $129.95 right now, though why anyone would do this is beyond me--you can
almost buy a whole 3400c/180 for that now.

Well, of course it is, and no one is disputing that. We're both simply
saying that on 68K binaries, the 68040/66 in the 190 is faster than the
603e/100 in the 5300. Level out the playing field and any PowerPC mops up
the floor with any 040. It's just that the real world isn't a level playing
field all the time.
