Sorry. Let me explain my query more clearly :-)
Just like the 540c owner who wanted more colours on a smaller area, I wanted to know if there is any sort of hack so that I can have millions on a smaller part of the screen of a 3400, rather than thousands on the whole screen
I am interested because it would be very useful for previewing photos I am sending out for press releases.

PS I guess I am implicitly also asking the question: on a 3400 are the number of colours limited by the vram or the specs of the screen? But i'm not planning to try to solder more vram in, so its a bit of a moot point.
