There was apparently one or two cases which prompted the recall. IIRC, the
problem was traced back to something in the battery and was fixed in the
3400. In the mean time, the 190/5300 were rereleased with a NiMh battery and
some kind of fix in the OS which prevents them from charging a LiIon
battery.

Reportedly, the earlist version of the software for the 190 does not have
this fix, so it is possible to charge a 3400 battery in a suitably equipped
190.

That said, I really don't want to run like that (plus I'd like to move the
book to something later than 7.5.2), but if it would work, it would give me
a chance to test the battery I have coming from ebay.
