'fraid not...

Every Powerbook w/ PCMCIA ports up to the Wallstreet G3 models (500-series w/ 
module, 190s, 5300s, 1400s, 2400c, 3400c, G3 Kanga) were not Cardbus enabled. 
They can only accept 16bit card, and all (or 99.9%) USB and firewire pcmcia 
cards are Cardbus, or 32bit, cards...

Of the Powerbook range mentioned above, only the 2400c and 3400c/G3 Kanga had 
PCMCIA ports that could be modified to accept a 32bit/Cardbus card. No way, 
no how can any 5300 use such a card...

Now, I have also heard of SOMEONE at one time making a 16bit USB card; do not 
remember who made them, or if any drivers for Macs were made, for that 
matter...
