Hi,
Jut got a pb 1400cs fully working off ebay for 22 but it has stress
cracks which I didn't know about but half-expected. Am I right in
thinking that Ambroid pro weld is the right thing for the job?

I'm in the UK so may have to hunt around for it though
http://www.gluelines.co.uk/ambroid.htm seem to have it. Perhaps I'll
try a modeling shop. Likely to have it?
Any help appreciated!

I don't know about Ambroid Pro weld it may work very well.

But I do know that radio shops in the USA carry a cement which melts
or " welds " plastic cases together. Sorry to say I can't remember
the name.
Is there such a store as Philcap or a Radio Shack where you are located ?

You could also experiment inside the case first with the following

Go to a model shop and get a liquid plastic cement. ( not Testor's
it's not " hot " enough )

OR you could go to an auto paint supplier and get MEK ( methyl ethyl
ketone ) and mix it with acetone. These are the basic ingredients of
plastic cement. The ratio of the mix determines how much it melts the
plastic and how fast it sets.

Use any of these in a well ventilated area. Away from fire or flame.

This will be a permanent repair and can be finished in ways to make
it invisible.
