I've found a few useful applications following your link, they all report the identical MAC address for the hardware. I'm resigned to think that the problem is inherent to the router then. Unfortunately I can't check by connecting the 520 directly to the DSL modem as I would need 8.5 at least for PPPoE. I just archive the problem for the moment, but I guess that following the suggestions I've gone great lengths in cornering the problem.
