This is a fairly common problem, generally caused by a flaky connection
somewhere. This diagnosis becomes much more certain if (gentle!) flexing of the
display frame changes things. Often, simply removing and reinstalling the
cable(s) (at the panel, and at the motherboard) fixes this problem. In other
cases, the contrast control itself develops a problem. Vigorously moving the
slider back and forth will frequently fix that.

The inverter board controls power to the backlight, which does not appear to be
your problem.

Resetting the power manager will not help, unfortunately. But doing so is easy
and harms nothing, so go ahead and give it a shot. :-)
