While I get the PowerPort software to work fine in a couple of 5xx PBs
with Global Village modem, I have an issue with an -apparently- non GV
modem. I thought GV were the only internal modems for the 5xx series,
but it does not seem to be so.

The Modem Card (beneath the RAM expansion module) has a "Apple
Computers" in-print (as opposed to the Global Village print/sticker) and
at start-up I get a message saying that the "PowerPort software was not
installed because this system is not running an appropriate Global Village
modem". The modem card layout is also different from the GV card and the
540 PB it came from is a German version, bearing at the back no sticker
reporting the kind of modem model installed.

I had (smartly!) ereased the original HD (loaded with a German OS version
of 7.x and where the original software could have been found) as soon
as I got the machine and I'm now left to figure out how to use this modem
card.

Any hints of non Global Village modems for the 5xx?

cheers, gianfranco
