Did you figure this out yet? None of the browsers listed as approved by gmail have 9.1 versions, only OSX versions.
Netscape 7.0.2 (and 7.0.1) (available from ftp.netscape.com) and Mozilla 1.2.1 (from their ftp site) both work.
They are not accepted by default, and you get a warning from gmail, but you can choose the "login anyway" option and everything I've tried still works.
