There's a two part tutorial on OF in Apple's archives, somewhere.

It was written for the Apple Network Server ("Shiner"), which does not 
run Mac OS (it runs IBM's A/IX, or some Linuxes) and its users needed to 
know OF in order to perform some usual ANS functions, such as invoking 
test sections, or specification of the boot device.
